Ridged atomic mirrors and atomic nanoscope

چکیده
Recent results on the reflection of waves from ridged mirrors are discussed. Numerical calculations, analytical estimates and the direct measurements of coefficient of specular reflection of atomic waves from solid-state mirrors are combined. The reflectivity is approximated as an elementary function of period L of ridges, their width , wavenumber K, grazing angle θ and effective depth w of the van der Waals potential. In a special case L = , the fit reproduces the reflectivity of flat surfaces. Our approximation allows us to optimize the L at given and estimate the maximum performance of a ridged mirror. Such a mirror is suggested as a focusing element for the nano-scale imaging system.

Coherent Transport of Single Photon in a Quantum Super-cavity with Mirrors Composed of Λ-Type Three-level Atomic Ensembles
In this paper, we study the coherent transport of single photon in a coupled resonator waveguide (CRW) where two threelevel Λ-type atomic ensembles are embedded in two separate cavities. We show that it is possible to control the photon transmission and reflection coefficients by using classical control fields. In particular, we find that the total photon transmission and reflection are achieva...
متن کاملAtomic Force Microscopy (AFM)Topographical Surface Characterization of Multilayer-Coated and Uncoated Carbide Inserts
In recent years, scanning probe atomic force microscopy SPM AFM has gained acceptance over a wide spectrum of research and science applications. Most fields focuses on physical, chemical, biological while less attention is devoted to manufacturing and machining aspects. The purpose of the current study is to assess the possible implementation of the SPM AFM features and its NanoScope software i...
متن کاملModification of a commercial atomic force microscopy for low-noise, high-resolution frequency-modulation imaging in liquid environment.
A key issue for high-resolution frequency-modulation atomic force microscopy imaging in liquids is minimizing the frequency noise, which requires a detailed analysis of the corresponding noise contributions. In this paper, we present a detailed description for modifying a commercial atomic force microscope (Bruker MultiMode V with Nanoscope V controller), aiming at atomic-resolution frequency-m...
متن کاملAnalysis of nanomechanical properties of Borrelia burgdorferi spirochetes under the influence of lytic factors in an in vitro model using atomic force microscopy.
BACKGROUND Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is an experimental technique which recently has been used in biology, microbiology, and medicine to investigate the topography of surfaces and in the evaluation of mechanical properties of cells. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the complement system and specific anti-Borrelia antibodies in in vitro conditions on the modification of...
متن کاملAtomic optics, Bose-Einstein condensates and atom lasers
In 1992, with the backing of CNRS, Alain Aspect founded the atomic optics group at the Institut d’Optique at Orsay, with Nathalie Westbrook and Robin Kaiser, and later Christoph Westbrook. Atomic optics is a new field of research which aims to use the forces exerted by lasers on atoms to control their paths, in the same way as traditional optics controls light rays with mirrors and lenses. From...
